A graduate of the prestigious Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture in Karachi, Pakistan with a coveted degree in textile design, Sania Maskatiya has been designing since 2007 under the label Chamak. In 2010, in an exciting bid to expand into broader fashion endeavors, Sania launched her own label, the eponymous Sania Maskatiya. The Sania Maskatiya brand has won a Lux Style Award, Pakistans most significant design award, for Achievement in the fashion design-luxury prêt category and was also nominated for Achievement in fashion design - prêt category at the coveted Lux Style Awards 2012. Internationally, the brand has also been shortlisted for the 2014 global Woolmark Award – one of the worlds most influential design awards. Indeed the brand continues to showcase designs both within Pakistan and on the international circuit extensively across India, The Middle East, the US and UK Sanias creations have been worn by an enviable diversity of influential personalities from Pakistan. They were represented at the esteemed 84th Annual Academy Award Nominee Luncheon where Oscar Winning Pakistani Filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy wore a custom Sania Maskatiya creation. A socially conscious brand, Sania Maskatiya and Umair Tabani, Head of Business Development, have supported important causes in Pakistan, the most recent being the Layton Rahmatulla Benevolent Trust to develop and retail a capsule collection of scarves, whose entire proceeds went towards the support of the trust. Sania herself currently serves as a member of the Fashion Pakistan Council board and is a regular jury member for the Indus Valley Schools final year graduating students thesis programmes.
