BAHAWALPUR:
Civil Lines police arrested seven suspects and seized arms and drugs from them on Saturday-Sunday.
A spokesperson said Sub-Inspector Sohail said arrested Muhammad Faheem, a wanted criminal, at a picket near Shama cinema and seized a .30 bore pistol and five bullets from him. Sohail also arrested Muhammad Owais at the picket and seized a pistol and bullets from him.
Sub Inspector Akmal Hussain, who was stationed at a picket near Monsoon Store, received a tip-off about a drug pusher in the area. He led a raid and arrested Muhammad Zahid and seized 20 litres of moonshine from him. Sub Inspector Muhammad Shabbir arrested Arbaaz, a drug pusher, from Karna Basit during a search operation and seized 20 litres moonshine from him.
Assistant Sub Inspector Muhammad Shahzad led a search operation in Nishat Colony and arrested Muhammad Usman, a bootlegger, and seized 15 litres of moonshine.
ASI Imtiaz Ali arrested Anwar Ali from Shahdara Road and seized 250 gram charas from him. The spokesperson said the ASI had also received a tip off about Muhammad Ali, a drug dealer, and arrested him from Bank Road. They seized 4.5kg hashish from him.
Civil Lines police have registered cases against the seven suspects.
A spokesperson for the DPO’s office said the Civil Lines police’s performance was exemplary. He said SHOs had been issued directions to take strict action against drug dealers and bootleggers.
He said a crackdown against underage driving and stunt riding on the city roads had also been announced. “All SHOs have been told to cooperate and take strict action against violators.”
