LAHORE: A district and sessions judge on Monday sought comments from Allama Iqbal Town SHO on a petition seeking action against 12 men for allegedly demolishing a shrine built in memory of the petitioner’s father.

Petitioner Muhammad Majnoo submitted that after his father Muhammad Ali’s death in 2009 his followers had decided to build a shrine at his grave in Allama Iqbal Town graveyard. He said as custodian of the shrine he had been holding Urs celebrations at the shrine every year since 2009.

He said that the shrine had been demolished a few days ago by some land grabbers, two of whom were identified as Shafique and Liaqat. He said the act had hurt the feelings of thousands of his father’s followers. He said they were now threatening to kill him if he pursued the matter. The petitioner said he and several others had approached police to register an FIR in the matter. However, the SHO had yet to do so, he added.

He requested the court to issue directives for the SHO to register an FIR and proceed against those involved in the demolition of the shrine.
