PESHAWAR: At least two suspected target killers were arrested during a search operation in the city. Weapons and improvised explosive devices were seized from their possessions.

According to the police, they received a tip-off, raided a house in Yakatoot and arrested a 20-year-old Ismail who is a resident of Tirah, Khyber Agency. Before being arrested, the alleged target killer also exchanged fire with the police but was subsequently arrested. The police say that he was involved in target killing and planting of IEDs. The police also recovered explosives weighing 2.5 kilogram, two detonators, two hand grenades, 9mm pistols with 25 cartridges.

The police also arrested 43-year Safirullah, a resident of Hangu district, from Qazi Killay within the jurisdiction of Faqirabad police station. He had a bounty of Rs0.5 million on his head. He was allegedly involved in the target killing of officials and planting of IEDs.

The police seized two IEDs – weighing two and four kilogrammes, respectively – two detonators and four hand grenades. According to the police, he was affiliated with a banned outfit and would work as their local commander. He was also produced at an anti-terrorism court where he was handed to the counter-terrorism department on a three-day physical remand. He was charged for carrying 12 kilogrammes explosives packed in a pressure cooker to Peshawar.
