LAHORE: Justice Mamoon Rashid Sheikh of Lahore High Court on Thursday sought replies from the federal government, the Federal Board of Revenue and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on a petition challenging the 17 per cent general sales tax (GST) on petroleum products. The judge ordered the respondents to submit their replies by August 31. Muhammad Azhar Siddique, counsel for the petitioner, said that a raise in taxes on petroleum products was unconstitutional and illegal. He said the raise in the GST also violated Supreme Court rulings.
