British woman’s killing

TURBAT: Once again, a scandal involving honour killing has occurred in Pakistan. Recently, a 28-year-old woman, Samia from Britain, came to the country to visit her native village near the Mangla Dam in Punjab. She was allegedly killed by her own family; it was evident from a 7.5-inch red mark on her neck that she might have been strangled to death. From the details of the story, it seems she was killed in the name of ‘honour’. Sadly, several women were killed last month in the name of honour. One prominent name was Qandeel Baloch. Another woman was Zeenat from Lahore and there were others from Swat. The rise in honour killings shows that the government is not entirely effective in combating them. I request Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take action and uproot the evil though harsh laws.
