KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has nominated 18 members of minority communities for the post of chairmen and vice-chairmen in district and town committees in Sindh.

It is unprecedented in the history of Pakistan that such a large number of local bodies heads will be elected from the minority communities, said minority affairs adviser Surendar Valasai in a press statement. The credit goes to PPP and its chairperson, as not only in Sindh but minorities have never gotten such a massive representation anywhere in South Asia, he added.

The party has nominated Kunwar Karni Singh as vice-chairman of District Council Tharparker, Dr Manoj Malani as its chairman, Doongar Mal Meghwar as vice-chairman of Municipal Committee Mithi and Saroop Chand Kolhi as vice-chairman of Municipal Committee Umerkot.

Others who have been nominated as chairmen of town committees include Mohan Lal Meghwar Diplo, Kamlesh Lohano Islamkot, Pardeep alias Chaku Chelhar, Gordhan Bheel Sultanabad, Veero Mal Tinani Thano Bula Khan, Ashok Kumar Perumal. And those nominated as vice-chairmen include Karamchand Meghwar Chelhar, Nonoon Mal Pithoro, Sooraj Meghwar Samaro, Kanya Lal Kandhra, Brij Lal Saleh Pat, Deewan Pehlaj Khangarh, Manak Lal Garhi Khero, and Suneel Kumar Karampur.

Valasai thanked the PPP leadership including its chairperson, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and all other party leaders for such a large representation of minorities. He hoped that the nominees will serve their respective areas with honesty and dedication.
