In custody: MQM worker dies during treatment at JPMC

KARACHI: A worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) died on Sunday while he was in law enforcers’ custody, the party’s coordination committee said in press conference.

Muhammad Waheed was a member of MQM Unit 209, Shah Faisal Colony and was reported to be arrested on March 16, 2016.

Doctors at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre said that Waheed was brought to hospital on July 22 and remained under treatment until today. He was being treated for necrotizing fascitis, uncontrollable sugar level and septic shock.

According to JPMC spokesperson Muhammad Waleed had been suffering with multiple injuries when he was admitted to the facility. He added that due to critical condition he remained in medical ICU throughout his treatment at the hospital.

Jails Inspector General of Police Nusrat Mangan said the accused was not tortured but and was being treated at hospital owing to his illness.
