ISLAMABAD: A judicial magistrate on Saturday extended physical remand of four imposters for four days. The suspects had been seeking US visa by impersonating as journalists.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested the suspects on August 1. They had applied for the
US visa claiming to be a media team for the coverage of the US presidential election.

The US embassy, however, detected the fraud and informed the FIA.

The suspects were identified as Adeel Inam and his wife Maryam Adeel, Naeem Akhtar, Mohammad Shehzad, and Mohammad Faisal.

On Saturday, the FIA investigators produced the four men before Judicial Magistrate Salman Badar and requested for an extension in the physical remand of the suspects, which the court allowed.

The FIA officials said they needed to arrest two agents — Dr Tariq and Faisal Basheer — who were the prime suspects.

Meanwhile, the suspects told the court that they were deceived by the two agents.

They said they paid hefty amount to the agents and thought their visas were genuine.

“Those agents met us near the entrance of the Diplomatic Enclave. They gave us files and sent to the US embassy,” said one of the suspects.

The court will take up the case again on August 10th.
