FAISALABAD: Last month, nine snakebite victims died in Faisalabad district. A spokesperson of the Faisalabad DHQ Hospital said 32 parents were being treated at public hospitals Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang and Chiniot districts. Nine others are under treatment at the DHQ Hospital, he said. Ghulam Mustafa, 25, a resident of Chak 363-GB, was bitten by a snake while he was replanting paddy in a field.

He was taken to the Faisalabad DHQ Hospital where he was given prompt treatment. His condition is improving, doctors said.   Saima Bibi, a resident of Chak 747-GB Kamalia, was asleep when a snake bit her. She died before she could get medical treatment. Liaqat Hussain, 39, a resident of Chak 55-RB, had died from a snake bite. Muhammad Abbas, 45, a resident of Tandalian Wala, was working at a farm when a snake attacked him. Abbas fainted and was taken to a medical clinic nearby where the doctor referred him to the Tandlian Wala Civil Hospital. He died before he could be administered anti-venom.

A three-year-old child was playing in the courtyard of his house when he received a snake bite. Gulfam, a resident of Chak 563-GB, Baggay Mahal, died before he could be taken to a hospital.  Naushair, 40, a farmer from Chak Sarang, received a snake bite at home and was taken to Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, where he breathed his last.

Subhan, 14, a resident of Chak 126-GB, Jaranwala, was working at his house when he was bitten by a snake. He was taken to the Jaranwala THQ Hospital where he was administered anti-venom which saved his life.   Samina Bibi, a resident of Chak 363-JB, Bamni Wala, a mother of five was arranging beds at her house. A snake slithering under one of the bed sheets attacked her. She was taken to the Civil Hospital where she died. Five-year-old Jahanzaib of Chak261-RB, Dijkot, died after being bitten by a snake. He was not administered anti-venom on time.

Anwar, 45, a farmer from Odowali, was cutting grass from his fields when he was bitten by a snake. He was taken to the Faisalabad DHQ Hospital on time where his condition improved. Usman and Haleem of Chak 215-RB were in the fields when they were also bitten by a snake. They were taken to the Faisalabad DHQ Hospital where they were given prompt treatment.

Zahid, 20, a resident of Aliabad; and Muhammad Sarwar, 50, a resident of Baddar Colony; were bitten by a snake and were taken to the Faisalabad DHQ Hospital where their condition is improving.  Ishfaq Hussain, 30, a resident of Chak No61 RB; and Irfan, 24, a resident of Chak No209 RB; were working in a farm  when they were bitten by a snake. They were taken to the DHQ Hospital where doctors said described their condition as critical.

Naveed Akhtar, 17, a resident of Chak No 229 RB; was also under treatment for a snake bite at the DHQ Hospital. Saba Bibi, 35, a resident of Chak No534 GB, was working in a farm when she was bitten by a snake. Muhammad Naveed Ali, a resident of WAPDA Scarp Colony, was sleeping at his house when he was bitten by a snake. They died at the Allied Hospital and DHQ Hospital, respectively.
