PESHAWAR / BANNU: In an attempt to provide shelter to those returning to their hamlets, 2,500 tents have been dispatched for the displaced people of South Waziristan and Orakzai agencies.

The tents have been handed over to FATA Disaster Management Authority by United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and will be dispatched to the agencies, stated a press release issued on Friday.

“I am pleased [about the fact that] these tents will give shelter to at least 15,000 people in South Waziristan and Orakzai who are currently [in a] vulnerable [state],” UNHCR Peshawar Head Oscar Mundia was quoted as saying.

Rain compensation

Separately, food packages and tents were distributed among people in Bannu who suffered during the recent spell of rain.

The initiative was taken by Bannu Assistant Commissioner Fawad Khan on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Mian Adil Iqbal. While addressing locals, Fawad said two people died while 63 other were injured in the district due to torrential rain.

He vowed to provide compensation and every possible aid to the locals.
