Cambridge examinations: High achievers credit teachers for their success

LAHORE: Students, their parents and teachers on Saturday celebrated the success of those who had done well at the Cambridge international examinations (CIE).

Speaking to The Express Tribune, high achievers from the City School, Lahore, credited their success to their teachers. Some of the students said they were surprised at their good grades while other appeared disappointed on not finding the results according to their expectation.

Areeba Tahir, who scored eight A*s and received a distinction in Urdu, said, “I was surprised [to see the result] because I felt that Urdu was never among strongest of my subjects. I was instead hoping to get a distinction in Pakistan studies.” Areeba praised her Urdu teacher for putting in a lot of efforts. She advised all students to focus on details. Mehwish Waheed, who got four A*s and 4 As, said she was bit a disappointed. She said she had expected seven A*s. She said she would work harder in the future.

Hamza Saleem, who scored nine A*s and two As, said he could have aced the exams had he not faced a difficulty in preparing for the test during Ramazan.

“I didn’t get A*s in the subjects I had thought I would,” said Hussain Mustafa who scored eight As. He said he had expected A*s in chemistry and physics. He said he realised that O Level was easy and that he would have to work harder for his A Level examination. He also praised his teachers for being available all the time, even at odd hours. “I would call my teachers whenever I faced any difficulty. They were always there to help me out. Without their help, things would have been very difficult for me,” he said. City School Regional Director Irum Yousaf said: “Our students have made us proud by achieving excellent results. I extend my heartiest felicitations to all the high achievers, their parents and teachers.” Beaconhouse School System Regional Head Ali Khan said they had produced better results compared to last year. He said the group ran 947 schools in the Punjab region.

Mahnoor Bhatti from the Allama Iqbal Town campus scored 13 A*s and 5 As in her O Level examination. The CIE had announced the results on Thursday. Schools said they would compile the results by Monday.
