Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif telephoned on Monday Test captain Misbahul Haq and congratulated the national cricket team for victory against England at The Oval.
Yasir Shah took five wickets as Pakistan marked the country’s Independence Day with a 10-wicket win over England in the fourth and last Test on Sunday.
According to a statement, the premier termed the historic win a gift from the team to the entire nation on the occasion of Pakistan’s 70th Independence Day.
Nawaz particularly lauded the performance by Younis Khan and Yasir Shah for scoring a double century and taking six wickets respectively, thus consolidating the team’s position in the high voltage match.
The PM appreciated all national players for “demonstrating excellent team work”, adding that it had added to the celebrations of the Independence Day.
Reciprocating, Misbah thanked the premier for his appreciation and termed the Test win on the special day an achievement for the team.
