HYDERABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has nominated former MNA Syed Tayyab Hussain as its candidate for mayor of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC). Sohail Mashhadi will contest on the slot of deputy mayor from the MQM.
With 79 votes in the HMC, which consists of 96 union committees of City and Latifabad, the two biggest talukas of Hyderabad, the MQM contestants are likely to emerge victorious. Their opponents, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Allah Bux Pasha alias Pasha Qazi and Hassan Ali Jatoi will contest the seats of mayor and deputy mayor, respectively.
The PPP bagged a higher number of seats in the remaining LG bodies in Hyderabad including the district council, Qasimabad municipal committee and Husri town committee. The voting will be held on August 24.
