KARACHI: The provincial government departments will be made more efficient, effective and vibrant for the public interest, which will help in establishing good governance in the province, said Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday.

The CM said this while presiding over a meeting on the recoveries and targets of Sindh Revenue Board (SRB) at the New Sindh Secretariat. Chief secretary Siddique Memon, SRB chairperson Alamuddin Bullo, SRB adviser Mushtaq Kazmi and finance secretary Hassan Naqvi were also present at the meeting.

Shah further said that he cannot do anything alone, but through team work they will make a difference. “Establishment of the SRB was a great move of the provincial government and now it has started producing great results by making record revenues,” he said and congratulated the board for their teamwork.

While briefing the CM, the SRB chairperson said the board has collected Rs10 billion during the first one-and-a-half-month of the new financial year 2016-2017. Giving a further break-up of the recoveries, he said that in July this year, the recovery was recorded at Rs6.84 billion, while till August 15 it was recorded at Rs3.22 billion. He added that the recovery target for current financial year is Rs78 billion, while last year it was Rs61 billion. Assuring the CM, he said that the target, which has been given by the government to the SRB, will be achieved.

CM visits Urdu university

The CM, along with cabinet members Manzoor Wassan and Imdad Pitafi, visited the old campus of the Urdu university. Shah laid a floral wreath at Baba-i-Urdu Molvi Abdul Haq’s grave and offered prayers.

He also addressed the audience which had gathered to observe Haq’s 55th death anniversary of Baba-i-Urdu and paid tribute to him. The CM announced an annual grant of Rs5 million for the university and vowed to visit the university again to discuss their issues with the management.

Siemens, Sindh govt sign MoU

The Sindh government and Siemens Engineering signed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU), with the aim to work together in energy sector. The CM was the chief guest at the ceremony.

Under the MoU, both the parties will work on various energy projects in the province, including up-gradation, modernisation, maintenance and development of new infrastructure for energy generation. The Siemens will also assist the Sindh government to identify resources, as well as provide various funding sources options, in order to assist the government to achieve the objective, according to the MoU.

US consul-general meets CM

The US consul-general Brian Heath and the CM discussed on Tuesday health and education projects, which have been launched under the United States Agency for International Development. They also discussed to expand the scope of Jacobabad Institute of Medical Science, established by the US government, and agreed to work on the project for protection and preservation of the Makli graveyard in interior Sindh.
