JHELUM: A three-member team, investigating the alleged murder of British national Samia Shahid, has declared her father and former husband guilty of her murder on the basis of the reports of their polygraph or lie-detection test.

The test was also administered on one of her cousins, Chuadhry Mobin. However, Mobin was later declared innocent. Earlier, police presented Samia’s father Chuadhry Shahid and his former husband Shakeel Ahmed before a civil judge.

The judge, Malik Abdul Sattar, handed them into the police’s custody on a five-day physical remand. The court also ordered the arrest of other suspects in the case.

Samia’s second husband Mukhtar Kazim had claimed that his wife was a victim of honour killing. According to her parents, Samia Shahid, 28, died of a cardiac arrest in her native village of Pandoori near Mangla dam on July 20.

However, Kazim said he believed his wife, who was visiting her family in Pakistan on receiving ‘fake news’ of his father’s illness, had been killed because her family disapproved of their marriage. He lodged a murder case against her parents, a sister, a cousin and former husband.

Later on August 4, the police had confirmed on the basis of forensic report that Samia had been murdered. The report clearly stated that her death was caused by suffocation.
