Whatsapp has released a new update that allows users to draw on top of images and videos that they share — a feature reportedly ‘copied’ from photo sharing app Snapchat.

The update, which is currently available on the beta version, was first introduced in September. It allows users to add emojis and coloured text to pictures. The update employs open source Twemoji also used by Snapchat and Twitter.

The update is not only limited to doodling with Whatsapp’s new camera features now supporting the pseudo-flash for the front facing camera. It uses the screen’s brightness to capture better pictures in low light conditions. The camera update also allows users to zoom in on pictures and switch between cameras by simply double tapping the screen.
Did Facebook just copy Snapchat with its Messenger Day feature?
Whatsapp and Facebook have over one billion monthly active users, far more than Snapchat. However the social media giant seems to be worried about increasing competition from competitors.
