Terrorism in the northwest of Pakistan

LAHORE: The year 2017 was no less catastrophic for Pakistan as many regions, particularly the northwestern belt remained engulfed with terrorist attacks. According to a report in a daily newspaper, 132 were killed with over 400 wounded only in Parachinar, although significantly lesser than the previous year when the death toll of 11 bomb blasts reached close to 500. The situation in other districts and regions is no different. Particularly, the belt connecting Pakistan to Afghanistan continues to bear the most due to terrorist attacks.

Hence, the government must devise necessary policies aiming particularly at the deteriorating situation in the region, be it through amendments to the National Action Plan or devising a completely new plan specifically formulated to counter terrorism in the northwestern areas of Pakistan.
