Three killed, two injured over land dispute


HYDERABAD: Three persons were killed and two were critically injured in a clash between two groups in Larkana district on Monday. The incident took place due to an old vendetta between tribes over a piece of land in a riverbed area within the limits of Keti Mumtaz Bhutto police station in Naudero taluka on Monday.

According to SHO Abdul Ghani Jeho, unidentified assailants attacked a group of men collecting firewood in the area. The victims were said to be supporters of former chief minister Mumtaz Bhutto, while the assailants reportedly belonged to Sardar Asad Ali Khuhro’s group. The two groups have been locked in a dispute for many years over the ownership of 900 acres of land on the riverbed in the same area.

The bodies were handed over to the families after postmortem, said SHO Jeho. The deceased were identified as Momin Kario, Sadoro Kario and Zahid Narejo. The two injured, Hatim Ali Kario and Gulzar Kario, were shifted to Civil Hospital, Larkana.

As many as 12 people from both sides have been killed so far over the dispute. After Monday’s incident, firing from both the sides continued throughout the evening. No FIR of the incident was registered and the police have yet to arrest the assailants.
