Dar requests accountability court to unfreeze Hajvery Trust accounts

Former finance minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday filed a petition at the accountability court, requesting it to restore frozen accounts of the Hajvery Trust.

According to Express News, Dar presented the petition before the accountability court judge Muhammad Bashir through his counsel.

Maintaining that the Hajvery Trust is an organisation for orphans in his petition, Dar said 93 orphan boys and girls are being looked after in it and for their sake; the court must unfreeze the trust bank accounts.

Ishaq Dar declared proclaimed offender in NAB reference

The accountability court later sought an answer from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) over Dar’s petition.

An accountability court last year declared the former finance minister a proclaimed offender in a NAB reference after he failed to appear before it despite repeated summons. A warrant was also issued for his arrest after he missed several court appearances on corruption charges that he had amassed wealth beyond his known sources of income.

Dar has denied all charges, as has former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, who also faces corruption cases after being ousted by a court in July in what his supporters call a political vendetta engineered by opposition leaders and elements of the powerful military.
