KARACHI: In another shocking incident, a five-year-old student was allegedly assaulted by the guard at her school, SM Grammar School, in the Ibrahim Hyderi neighbourhood of Karachi.
Sources told The Express Tribune that the minor was assaulted in the premises of the school located near Benazir Chowk.
As news of the incident spread like wildfire on Friday, angry residents of the locality surrounded the school and protested.
According to Express News, the violent crowd locked the staff of the school in the staffroom and chanted slogans against the school administration. In a bid to deal with any untoward incident, a heavy contingent of police and Rangers was later called in.
Meanwhile, police said they have taken the school guard into their custody who was earlier badly thrashed by the fierce mob.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident and ordered an immediate inquiry.
The school administration confirms that an incident like such has never occurred before and they guarantee that proper investigation will be carried out stringently over the matter. The admin further added saying that the culprit will receive strict punishment over harassment.
This case came to light as Pakistan mourns on the third day after the rape and murder of an 8-year-old girl in Kasur city of Punjab.
Two people were killed on Wednesday when police fired at angry protesters in Kasur, and a local resident said schools, offices, and markets remained closed in the area on Thursday.
This was, however, not an isolated event, as over 720 incidents of such nature have been reported from Kasur in the last three years. This was also the 12th case of sexual abuse of a child reported from within a two-kilometre radius in the past 12 months.
