KARACHI: Film-maker Azfar Jafri seems to be on a roll. Days after his third and 2018’s first film Parchi released, he has started working on his next project titled Sherdil. The film stars Armeena Khan and Mikaal Zulfiqar in the lead, along with Sabeeka Imam and Hassan Niazi.
Although the team has been hush-hush about the details of the project so far, Khan shared the first look of the film on her Instagram and even posted a 40 second teaser of the film. It boasted of action, comedy and romance with the backdrop of Pakistan Air Force.
With the recent boost of strong female characters, we can expect one more with Khan in Sherdil. The film is to be shot in Pakistan and Egypt, and the first spell has already begun in Islamabad. Sonu Dangerous has joined the team as the choreographer.
Talking to The Express Tribune, director Jafri confirmed that Riki Butland will be serving as the cinematographer for Sherdil. Butland has previously worked as part of the camera department on Furious 7 and Star Trek: Beyond. He has also done cinematography for Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgan-starrer Bollywood film Tezz which was released in 2012.
“Yes, Butland is the cinematographer for the film. He has previously worked on Furious 7 and even shot chunks of the film in UAE,” said Jafri.
The Pakistani film-maker’s fourth venture is surprisingly not an IRK Films project. Meanwhile, he intends to release Sherdil in 2018. With the planned release of Hamza Ali Abbasi-starrer Parwaaz Hay Junoon, which is another film on the Pakistan Air Force, it will be interesting to see how different the two are and how the audience responds to them.
On the interesting timing of the two films, Jafri commented, “Yes, I’m aware of Parwaaz Hay Junoon but Sherdil is a totally different film. It has a different story and angle so we are not concerned about that.”
