SSP Rao Anwar survives ‘suicide attack’ in Karachi

KARACHI: Senior police officer SSP Malir Rao Anwar escaped a ‘suicide attack’ near Karachi’s Malir Cantonment area on Tuesday.

Initial reports suggested that Anwar was on his way home from work when he was attacked by three assailants.

One of the attackers rammed his motorcycle into the armoured vehicle of Anwar but failed to blow up his suicide vest.

The police guards of Anwar responded immediately and killed two suspects while their comrade escaped.

Four policemen were injured in the incident, which the police have described as a suicide attack.

Last year, Anwar, who has been summoned by courts in several cases, said he was unable to appear before courts due to security concerns and ‘life threats by Taliban militants’.

The senior police officer has faced similar targeted attempts on his life before as well.
