PCB's differences with franchises over dues put third PSL edition in jeopardy

Pakistan Cricket Board is silent over reports of its differences with the franchises of the Pakistan Super League while its chairman Najam Sethi had already announced to hold the league as per the announced schedule, Express News reports.

Sources said that the upcoming PSL 3 could be jeopardised due to differences between the PCB and the PSL franchises over non-payment of dues.

They added the board had also been facing financial problems as five out of the six franchises did not pay their dues until the set deadline expired in November last year.

Sethi assures PSL ‘firmly on track’

The PCB is seriously concerned over shortage of about $5 million required for holding the third edition of PSL scheduled to be held from February 22 to March 25 in the UAE and Pakistan.

The sources maintained that the PCB might take legal action and consider resale of the teams if the franchises fail to pay their dues.

However, the franchises are of the view that the PCB had started putting pressure on them after they demanded compensation money from the board.

They said the PCB was also not happy with them for supporting T10.

PCB chief Najam Sethi had not offered any comment on the reports of boards’ differences with the franchises. However, the head of the tournament Najam Sethi clarified in a tweet on Saturday that the event will take place as per the announced schedule.

He wrote on twitter: “#PSL3 is firmly on track. First match in Dubai on 22nd Feb and Final in Karachi on 25th March. Promo campaign about to kick off.”
