Policy in the making to attract foreign investment: Bizenjo


QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Quddus Bizenjo has said that a comprehensive economic policy is being devised to attract foreign investment for development in the province.

“Foreign investment at any scale will be welcomed for development as our goal is to benefit the common man,” said CM Bizenjo during a meeting with the chief executive officer of Chinese Cement and Construction Company at the CM Secretariat on Monday.

A number of senior officials were also present during the meeting with the Chinese CEO.

He said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and its affiliated projects would boost economic activities in the entire region, benefiting Balochistan as well as its people.

The chief minister said that Balochistan is rich in minerals and other natural resources, which once tapped, can help address all the issues of the country.

Accepting the CEO’s offer to invest in the construction industry, Bizenjo assured him that his government would provide all facilities and services in order to make the venture successful.

Salary disbursement

The chief minister said that soon salaries of the chairmen of district councils across the province would be disbursed.

The chief minister stated this during a meeting with a delegation of local council chairmen.

He said that approval for releasing salaries would be granted at the cabinet meeting.

He supported the idea that local bodies should solve the problems of the people at local level.

Balochistan was the first province where local bodies’ elections were held, but the provincial government did not transfer powers and resources to the elected local councils for political reasons, he said.

He said his government had fully activated the official machinery to handle and resolve the pressing problems of the people, adding that he wants to activate the official machinery at the lowest level also in order so local councils could become effective in serving the people.

He pledged that his government would empower local councils and release their development funds.

Earlier, the Chief Minister held an ‘Open Kachery’ where he received complaints from the people. He passed orders on some of the complaints, assuring all present that his orders would be implemented within three days.
