Sethi has previously lent his vocals to The Reluctant Fundamentalist and released his own singles tooHe has also starred in Coke Studio Season 9 alongside the legendary Abida Parveen and performed a rendition to the ghazal Ranjish Hi Sahi in the first episode of the season.

He has also worked with Riz Ahmed’s The Swet Shop Boys. Lending his vocals to the song titled Aaja, both Sethi and Ahmed have tried to paid tribute to Qandeel Baloch who was brutally killed in the name of “honour.”

However, these are not the collaborations he’s worked on. His song with Ali Hamza and Waqar Ehsin under Coke Studio’s banner was a huge hit and appreciated across the border as well. The Lungi Dance vocalist Honey Singh took to twitter to praise Tinak Dhin that Sethi was a part of.

Singh tweeted, “All three of the vocalists are good but Ali Sethi is the best.”

Even Chan Kithan was loved by Sethi’s fans. An experiment in “Punjabi gothic”, the song blends the ethos of Seraiki language with urban longing through a unique mix of music and fashion.

Speaking of the song, Sethi said, “I’ve loved this song since I was a child. It’s one of those folk tunes that have been around for as long as we can remember. But a few years ago I heard an old recording of the late Ustad Barkat Ali Khan performing it in a mehfil. This was from the 50s, so a long time ago. Khan sahib was a famous stylist and I could hear him playing around with the tune, stretching the syllables in surprising and rather beautiful ways. That’s what inspired me to sing it. I too wanted to explore the song’s full melodic potential”.

The video is directed by Taimoor Salahuddin, which features Sethi’s sister Mira Sethi, Mikaal Zulfiqar and Mehreen Syed. It’s a modern-take on Cinderella with a unique ending and the coming together of several stylistic elements.

Garnering massive fandom, the artists’ music career seems to be flourishing by the day. With Sethi’s classical skills combined with the Grammy-winning producer, the album could very well be a good fusion of eastern and western music, making this collaboration worth waiting for. Will this make Ali Sethi a worldwide sensation like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan or AR Rahman? Look’s like we’ll have to be on the look out.
