LAHORE: Another day and yet another gory case of child abuse. That is how our news cycle goes. This time the offender happened to be someone who is expected to educate the young on abuse and molestation and not to indulge in it himself. A school principal in Peshawar has allegedly molested and sexually harassed children in his school.

With such an incident taking place, there seems to be no stopping these incidents. Much like other cases, the alleged perpetrator has been charged under numerous sections of the law.

However, the solution lies in identifying the root cause of such cases which stems from one’s own unfortunate experiences as a child. Someone who has been a victim of abuse or molestation is likely to indulge in the same as a grownup and hence, bringing the whole victim and perpetrator experience full circle. Often ignored is the psychological aspect in such cases that primarily shapes ones perception of the act. Therefore, a rational approach towards the issue does not lie only in taking legal action against the culprit. Instead, the authorities concerned should also focus on rehabilitating the children who have become victim to sexual abuse by providing them professional help.
