Suspending flights to cut down losses

LAHORE: Just a few days ago, Pakistan International Airline announced suspending its flights to New York on the ground that the route was generating losses for it. Now the airline is set to suspend its flights to Oman and Kuwait as well. Lately, with the exclusion of a few, almost all the routes of the airline have been generating losses. Yet the government has no solution for the state-owned enterprise other than granting bailout packages and suspending its flights to various destinations.

It is about time that the authorities concerned considered either privatising the national carrier or thought of measures that could reduce the losses.
