This request has been made in a letter addressed by the ECP to the SHC registrar.

According to the letter, the top election body said that the Senate seats will be vacated in March and the schedule for the election is likely to be announced by the chief election commissioner on February 2.

Therefore, it was requested that the names of the sitting SHC judges for appointment as election appellate tribunal with the concurrence of the provincial chief justice may be sent to the ECP office at the earliest for necessary action by the chief election commissioner.

The appellate tribunals receive objections against the candidature of the aspiring Senate election candidates and decide them. Similarly, the tribunals also decide the appeals challenging the election of the returned candidates.
