Money-minting politicians

LAHORE: The news reports stating an over a thousand time increase in Ishaq Dar’s wealth depicts another instance of unlawful practices politicians in Pakistan engage in to mint money off the country. Important ministerial portfolios award their office-bearers in unexpected and rather surprising ways. The estimated wealth of the former finance minister surged from a mere Rs9.11 million in 1993 to a staggering Rs831.67 million in 2009.

However such is not the case with only Ishaq Dar or other politicians, many others who don’t even hold any important office still manage to create a wealth empire for themselves out of the national exchequer.
