Uniform anti-trafficking legislation needed

RAWALPINDI: The US State Department has released its annual report on Human Trafficking for the year 2018. The report highly appreciates the steps taken by the Punjab government for not only providing assistance to the victims with rehabilitation and obtaining of the identity documents but also for reporting the highest number of complaints and convictions across the country. Comparatively, other provincial governments have performed below par.

As trafficking is not only a transnational crime but inter-provincial too, only a coordinated approach between the provinces can help in putting an end to it. Now different provinces have different laws to deal with the problem, so the federal government should enact uniform laws for all provinces to deal with trafficking and smuggling.
