JUP secures Milli Muslim League's support for its chief

HYDERABAD: After making a seat adjustment with the Pakistan Peoples Party for a National Assembly constituency in Hyderabad, the Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) – Noorani has also won the support of the Milli Muslim League (MML) in the constituency.

During a press conference in Hyderabad, JUP chief Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair and MML provincial leader Faisal Nadeem announced that the two parties have agreed to the seat adjustment.

The MML, which is a political wing of Jamaatud Dawa, is registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan as Allah-0-Akbar Tehreek.

Under the agreement, the MML will support the JUP in Hyderabad city-based NA-227 from where the latter’s chief is contesting the elections. In exchange, the JUP will support the MML candidate, Nadeem, in Latifabad-based NA-226. Nadeem had filed his nominations for both NA-226 and 227.

Earlier, the PPP also withdrew its candidate Irfan Gul Magsi from NA-227 in favour of the JUP chief on June 28.

The JUP will also support MML’s Sheeraz Ahmed Shoro in PS-63, which comprises rural areas of Hyderabad district and Latifabad-based PS-64.

“Together we will fight the elements who want to provoke sectarian and ethnic strife in Pakistan,” Zubair said, adding that the JUP’s seat adjustment with the PPP was a part of his efforts to curb the element of ethnic racism in politics. The JUP chief contended that enemies of Pakistan wanted to exploit both the sectarian and ethnic sentiments during the elections.

Nadeem, likewise, maintained that the MML’s seat adjustment with the JUP had been done with the spirit of keeping Muslims united. The MML leader deplored that Hyderabad’s urban infrastructure was in a shambles and its citizens were being supplied with impure drinking water. He criticised political parties who had remained in power for ineffective solid waste disposal and unplanned urban expansion. “The political parties responsible for this destruction are going back to the people to ask for their votes.”
