MQM-P, GDA join forces against PPP in in Sindh

KARACHI: In an effort to defeat Pakistan Peoples Party in Sindh, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan has agreed to join forces with the Democratic Alliance (GDA) over seat adjustment.

GDA, an alliance of different political parties and independent groups have fielded candidates against PPP in various districts of Sindh. “GDA delegation led by Pir Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi held meeting with MQM-P leaders on Monday evening.

Both parties have decided to support each other’s candidates in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and other districts of Sindh,” a senior leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) confirmed.

MQM-P’s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Aamir Khan, Faisal Sabzwari also attended the meeting. PML-F’s Sadaruddin Shah Rashid, Sardar Rahim and Nand Kumar Goklani were also present. The Pir Pagara-led GDA also sought the support of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in some constituencies.

PTI’s Shah Mehmood Qureshi who is contesting elections from NA-221 (Nangarparkar) also enjoys the GDA’s support.

Sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune that the leaders of GDA and MQM-P also discussed the option of sorting differences between MQM-P and Mustafa Kamal-led Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP).

“Efforts are afoot to agree on an electoral alliance or seat adjustment between PSP and MQM-P,” sources revealed, adding that a meeting is expected between leaders of both parties in the coming days. The Express Tribune also learnt that PML-F will play the mediator’s role in attempting to ink an agreement between them for the upcoming elections.
