Independents unite against feudal lords, political parties

KARACHI: As registered political parties continue their campaigns for the upcoming polls, independent candidates contesting from different constituencies have also been grouping together to support each other and jointly campaign for the elections.

The Social Democratic Group is one of such groups of independent candidates contesting from Hyderabad, Thatta, Mirpurkhas and other districts that has been presenting itself as an alternative to tried and tested political parties and feudal lords.

During a press conference in Karachi, independent candidates, Mian Ilyas Abbas, Farooq Aman Abbasi, Radha Bheel, Mir Shehzad Ahmed Talpur, Bhanwar Lal, Mukhtar Ahmed and others, announced that they were part of one group and would support each other in their respective constituencies.

PTI toughens stance against party members contesting independently

The candidates claimed that they were ordinary people and that was why they knew what issues were being faced by the public and how they could be resolved. They asserted that candidates like them needed to group together and enter into the mainstream as only they could address people’s grievances.

According to the independent candidates, only representatives coming from humble backgrounds could deliver to the people. They asserted that they were unlike feudal lords or political leaders who disappeared once they won elections only to reappear after five years to seek votes again without having served the people.

The past governments shirked from providing basic necessities to the people, due to which they were suffering from poverty and hunger, the independent candidates said.

Of the members of the Social Democratic Group, Hakim Ali Brohi is contesting the elections from PS-77 Thatta, Bheel from PS-48 Mirpurkhas, Abbasi from PS-36 Moro, Abbas from PS-111, Mukhtar from PS-83, Lal from PS-75 Tando Allahyar, Talpur from NA-224, Majid Mian Bhutto from NA-200 and Ameer Haider from PS-10 and PS-49.
