‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ drive kicks off at Hanna Lake


QUETTA: A campaign ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ was arranged at Hanna Lake by the environmental department on the directives of Balochistan Chief Secretary Dr Nazeer Akhtar. The campaign was arranged in line with the international campaign against environmental pollution.

The chief guest, the interim health minister, said, “Due to the usage of plastic shoppers and plastics commodities, various kinds of diseases, including cancer and TB, are spreading in our society. Owing to lack of awareness, it is causing severe challenges to the sewage system in the city and spreading environmental pollution. It is affecting the beauty of Quetta.”

He said, “A campaign against plastic shoppers has been initiated and it will start in Quetta today.”

He said, “The campaign will be spread throughout Balochistan. Awareness will be spread among the people through students of schools.”

However, he said, legal action would be taken against those who produce plastic bags and commodities.

“The environmental department is introducing an alternative for plastic bags that will be available in every general store, shopping malls and medical stores,” he added.

At the occasion, the environmental department handed over 1,000 tress to school children for planting.

In his concluding remarks, the environment secretary expressed his gratitude to all guests who were a part of the campaign, including Quetta DC, AC and others.
