Hypocrisy?

ISLAMABAD: It’s highly hypocritical of the major political parties of the country which unlike the small and the religio-political parties award tickets to female candidates only to portray an image of themselves as the flag-bearers of female empowerment and equality among men and women. Ahead of the general election, to be held later this month, more than the expected has been written about female candidates and to what extent the cause of women empowerment has been upheld by the major parties here which have already ruled the country for years.

According to a recent news report, excluding the female politicians who hail from influential political families and who perfectly illustrate hereditary politics, the rest who have managed to receive tickets from their parties will be contesting from constituencies where their respective parties are least likely to win.

At a time when inclusivity of different segments of society has become a hot topic of debate, it turns out that like religious minorities and transgender community members, women are yet to gain their equal share in political, economic and social spheres.

It is important for males who dominate the political landscape of the country to be welcomingly accepting the other 51 per cent before they raise chants of upholding the values of equality.
