Rao Anwar granted bail in Neqeebullah murder case


Former SSP Rao Anwar was granted bail in the Naqeebullah murder case on Tuesday by an Anti-terrorism court in Karachi.

The court hearing the bail plea filed by the Anwar in the Naqeebullah Mehsud case granted the bail against surety money of Rs1 million.

The former Malir SSP was presented at the ATC court amid high security.

The court had earlier reserved its verdict on Rao Anwar’s bail plea.

On January 13, former SSP Rao Anwar led a police operation in Karachi, claiming to have killed 4 terrorists.

However later it was uncovered that those killed during the alleged fake police operation, were not terrorists, but ordinary citizens picked up from various areas in Karachi.

One of those killed during the fake police operation, was identified as Naqeebullah Mehsud.

After much backlash on social media and protest by the civil society, the Supreme Court took a suo motu notice of the issue.

Rao Anwar went into hiding after the suo motu notice, and also tried to escape to Dubai via Islamabad, but failed.

After which he appeared before the Supreme Court and was arrested thereafter.
