PESHAWAR: An explosion was heard during a rally of Awami National Party (ANP) in Peshawar on Tuesday with reports suggesting party’s candidate Haroon Bilour was critically injured.
Initial reports suggest the explosion occurred near the vehicle of Bilour, son of late ANP leader Bashir Bilour, in the Yakatoot area. The nature of the blast is being confirmed. Haroon was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH). Other persons injured are also being shifted to LRH.
Haroon was approaching the rally organised in connection with the election campaign when the explosion took place on Circular Road.
Last week, an election candidate of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) was among seven people injured in a blast in Bannu. The convoy of Malik Sherein was attacked when it was passing through the Takhti Khel area in the PK-89 constituency as part of the party’s election campaign.
The vehicle of the party’s leader was badly damaged in the attack. The injured were shifted to district headquarters hospital. Initial reports revealed the explosives were planted on a motorcycle which exploded in the path of the convoy.
