NAB not hampering national activities: Javed Iqbal

The National Accountability Bureau chief Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal expressed displeasure over the notion that anti-graft was hampering national activities, Express News reported.

“The notion that NAB is hampering national activities is not fair. No party will be sidelined,” Javed said.

The anti-graft body’s chief stated that even though it may take time to uproot corruption ‘if the bureaucracy, teachers and media support us, we can surely achieve this objective’.

“Now as far as bureaucracy is concerned, I must say that we are only striving to mend its loopholes. We are there to support, assist and hold everyone accountable from section officer to chief secretary. If you are honest, NAB would never go after you. We want bureaucracy to act as per law and constitution,” he added.

Iqbal went on to sight an example of the bureaucracy of Balochistan and how the funds given to them never reach the public.

‘If you look at Balochistan, over the past 15-20 years the province has received enough funds but the funds have not reached the public,” he added.

He even pointed out that people behind the misappropriation of funds include elites and those in power.

“We must hold them accountable for and question them where the funds were spent,” DG NAB stated.

The anti-graft body chief clarified that NAB has nothing to do with the bureaucracy until people are involved in corruption.
