QUETTA: A complete shutter-down strike was observed in the Makran division, including the new port city of Gwadar, on Friday against continuous suspension of power supply for the last two weeks.
The strike call was given by the National Party and in response bazaars, shopping centres, business establishments, private banks and shops remained closed in Turbat, Gwadar, Pasni, Panjgur, Jewani and Ormara.
Protestors blocked the coastal highway and staged a sit-in due to which all kinds of traffic were suspended.
They put up barricades and boulders on the highway linking Makran with Karachi and other areas of Balochistan.
Women also blocked the Quetta-Karachi National Highway in the industrial town of Hub.
In Gwadar, members of civil society and hundreds of other people marched on different roads carrying placards and banners inscribed with their demands. They chanted slogans against the government and Quetta Electric Supply Company officials.
