Mexico condemns terrorist attack in Pakistan

MEXICO CITY, MEXICO,: Mexico’s government on Saturday condemned Friday’s terrorist attack in Pakistan, which has claimed the at least 128 lives and left more than 200 people injured.

“Mexico expresses its condolences and solidarity with the people and government of Pakistan and reiterates its total rejection of the use of violence and terrorism in all its forms,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.

The death toll from Friday’s suicide bombing at a campaign rally in the province of Balochistan, southwestern Pakistan, has risen to 128 as of Saturday morning, said officials.

The bombing occurred during preparations for the national elections, to be held on July 25.

The nation is observing a day of mourning on Sunday to express solidarity with the families of victims of recent terrorist attacks in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Balochistan.

In Pakistan, the national flag is flying at half-mast on the occasion, according to reports.

On Saturday, the funeral prayer of Siraj Raisani was offered in Moosa Stadium in Quetta Cantonment which was attended, among others, by the Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Governor and Chief Minister Balochistan, provincial ministers and senior civil and military officials.

Later, his coffin was taken to his native town Kanak by helicopter where he was laid to rest in the Martyrs’ Graveyard.

On July 10, Awami National Party (ANP) leader and candidate for the forthcoming elections Haroon Bilour and 12 others were martyred and nearly three dozens injured in a suicide bomb attack targeting an ANP rally in a congested neighbourhood of Peshawar.

The much-loved and charismatic Bilour’s late father Bashir Ahmad Bilour was killed in a similar attack in December 2012.
