LAHORE: A man poisoned his wife to death over a domestic issue at their house in Shafiqabad on Sunday.
The woman, identified as Sumera Bibi, tied the knot with Murtaza a couple of years ago. Police said their relationship had soured and arguments were a matter of daily routine. On the day of the incident, Murtaza poisoned his wife to death after a heated argument and escaped. Police are looking for the accused.
Meanwhile, five men, who were on their way home after attending a wedding ceremony, were injured in a road accident on Sunday.
Police said that the victims were sitting on the rooftop of the bus and were injured when the driver rammed the bus into Jinnah Hospital underpass.
The injured were identified as Qaiser, Ali Shujja, Ghulam Abbass, Mehboob, and Daniyal. Later, police reached the spot, collected forensic evidence and recorded statements of the witnesses.
In another incident, a 60-year-old man was killed in a road accident in Shahadara Town on Sunday. Police said the victim, identified as Muhammad Ilyas, was on his way home after work when a speeding vehicle hit him. He suffered severe injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital where he died due to blood loss. The body was handed over to his family after completing legal formalities.
On Sunday, the body of a young man was fished out from River Ravi. The man named Nauman was the resident of Karachi and had married two weeks ago. He, along with his family, had come to visit Lahore. Police said he fell into the river while crossing the bridge four days ago. Rescue teams had launched a search operation to search for his body but failed. On Sunday, his body was spotted and recovered.
In a separate incident, the bodies of two unidentified men were found from Gulberg and Old Anarkali. Police said that the victims were drug addicts and died of an overdoses. The bodies were shifted to a morgue.
