Avoiding uncivil behaviour

LAHORE: Elections are less than a week away. Political parties had started their polling campaigns over a month ago, but these campaigns mostly feature personal attacks by our political leaders on one another.  Particularly, Imran Khan and his PTI have repeatedly used derogatory remarks against rival politicians. At a recent political gathering, Khan referred to those PML-N supporters as ‘donkeys’ who went to receive Nawaz Sharif at the airport upon his return from London. The insulting remarks caused outrage, with several political parties urging the ECP to take action against the PTI chief over the inappropriate language he used against his political rivals. The ECP then also asked Imran Khan not to use such language. It can be only hoped that Khan will pay heed to what is being asked of him and address his fellow politicians with respect and politeness.
