Toss Up: Sophiya Anjam

Marketing Head and the host of FM91’s 5pm jam RJ Sophiya Anjam plays a game of chance with us. From the secret behind her high energy, to a glimpse behind the scenes of her YouTube channel, Sophie tells us all

What has been your most rewarding project?

Leading my team at the FM91 Lahore station; watching my juniors/subordinates grow and become successful, makes me really proud.

What do you like the most, hosting or marketing?

Hosting for sure, anytime, any day!

In two words, how would you describe your work journey?

Always learning!

Where do you get your high energy from?

I get asked about this a lot and I always say that it’s inherent but I do make an effort too. I keep negativity out of my system. I thrive on passion, life and exuberance.

What is the best part about being on the radio?

Words and emotions don’t fail you and visuals don’t matter.

Describe your YouTube channel in three words?

Solid, digital and content.

At this point in your career does money still motivate you?

Let’s be honest, money always motivates people but for some it’s just a journey and for some, the destination. For me, it’s part of the journey and a good incentive for sure but certainly not the aim.

With your busy schedule, how do you manage your YouTube channel? Do you have a team or is it all you?

So we mostly schedule shoots every Saturday, when I’m free. My team comprises of three people who are present at the shoot in Lahore and then ‘Bring It On Productions’ does the final editing from Karachi.

If you were not a host, what would you be?

An actor. The limelight always attracted me ever since I was a kid!

What kind of content do you put up on your YouTube channel?

I have a variety of content I put on my YouTube channel. The main web series is called The “S” stories in which every episode has a story. The content is mostly on issues that matter, from our environment to social work, the development sector to mental health, society pressure to empowerment, patriotism to entertainment and a special focus on travel.

If you could wish for anything that would come true, what would you wish for?

I usually work hard and get what I wish for however, if I do get a magical wish I would go for a peaceful and pollution-free world.

If you get trapped for a month in the last TV show that you watched, how high are your chances of survival?

The last TV show that I watched was Designator Survivor. I’m sure I learnt a few tricks that would help me survive or maybe even take over some of the lead actors while I’m at it.

Who is the one person you would like to work with, that you have not already?

As an anchor, I have interviewed almost all of the biggest stars in Pakistan or have interacted with them on stage while hosting events. I wouldn’t mind interviewing some foreigners! Ryan Reynolds, Shahrukh Khan, Leonardo Di Caprio, Sushmita Sen, Julianne Moore, Meryl Streep. It’s a never ending list!

What was the best part of 2017 for you?

My baby sister getting married! Oh and traveling to Turkey and Azerbaijan wasn’t bad either! They were absolutely beautiful!

If someone narrated your life, who would you want the narrator to be?

Meryl Streep or Sushmita Sen.

What social stigma does society need to get over?

Holier than thou.

Are there any exciting projects in the pipeline for you?

So right now my focus is on my YouTube channel. It launched only four months ago and that’s where all my energy goes. I will be experimenting with a lot of things this year digitally and hopefully be able to garner solid content for people to watch.

If you were a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?

To be invincible so nothing can deter my aim.

Anything we should be looking forward to?

Yes, The “S” Stories on Sophiya Anjam’s YouTube channel, every Friday 7pm PST!
