Cargo train derails near Rohri

LAHORE: A cargo train derailed near the Rohri Railway Station yard on Sunday, temporarily shutting down the track between Karachi and Lahore.

The derailment affected train operations on the up line. The Pakistan Railways said teams had been dispatched to the area and train traffic would be restored soon.

A day earlier, another train had derailed in Sukkur, suspending rail traffic between Karachi and Lahore.

In addition to the Pakistan Railways suffering financial losses, incidents of train derailment are also increasing and passengers are facing extreme difficulties.

Unmanned railway crossings main cause of accidents

The Pakistan Railways, despite tall claims, has failed to facilitate passengers. The shortage of bogies is affecting its operations.

On Saturday, passengers staged a protest at the Lahore railway station against the shortage of bogies in the Karachi-bound Shalimar Express and the Rawalpindi-bound Rawalpindi Express.

The passengers were told that they the bogies for which they had purchased tickets were not attached to the train. They complained that they had bought the tickets several days ago and were travelling with their families, but now the railways authorities had turned them away.

The passengers added that the authorities had told them that they would be refunded in 15 to 20 days.

The Shalimar Express departed after a delay of three hours. The Rawalpindi Express left after a one-hour delay.
