In an official statement issued earlier in the day, PM Imran said the Defence Day stood out “as a symbol of enduring display of unity, indomitable courage and unmatched sacrifices by our gallant soldiers who, on this day, years ago in 1965, proved to the world that the country’s defence is unassailable and the valiant armed forces are ever ready to defend every inch of the motherland”.

The army chief also reiterated that Pakistan’s armed forces would not refrain from making any sacrifice when it comes to defending the motherland.

General Qamar, while addressing the main event of the Defence and Martyrs Day at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, stressed, “A peaceful, strong and prosperous Pakistan is our destination and we are steadfastly moving towards that end”.

The Defence and Martyrs Day is also being observed as Kashmir Solidarity Day to reaffirm the support of Pakistani nation to the oppressed people of occupied Kashmir who have been under lockdown for over a month now.
