Senate passes pro-Kashmir resolution

House expresses solidarity with the people Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK)

The Senate on Monday unanimously passed a resolution moved by Sherry Rehman, the parliamentary leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to express solidarity with the people Indian Illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

The house met with Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani in the chair. The chairman referred the Federal Public Service Commission Amendment Bill 2020 to the relevant standing committee. The bill pertained to the administering oath to the government advisers.

The Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020 was introduced in the house. However, the opposition – the PML-N and the PPP – opposed the treasury member Faisal Javed’s motion to moves to introduce Pemra Amendment Bill 2020.

Senator Pervez Rashid of the PML-N said that freedom of expression was being stifled through the law. “Institutions will be controlled. We object to the Bill,” he said. Raza Rabbani also opposed the bill.

Information Minister Shibli Faraz said he would ask the opposition why they were silent when the Article 19 of the Constitution was violated during the opposition’s rally in Quetta on Sunday. During the speech, Maulana Ataur Rehman pointed out the lack of quorum. The session was adjourned until Thursday.
